Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Wonderfully silly romantic comedy…that just happens to have lots of zombies ’n stuff blowing up. I don’t like chick flicks but this is unique, this is a zom-rom-com! Mr. Shukti even stopped what he was doing and started watching it with me.
Shaun (Simon Pegg, who also co-wrote) lives a life of repetition, going to his dead-end job in the day and dragging his girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield) and their friends to the same-old same-old whenever they go out. Meanwhile, he shares his digs with the lovable Neanderthal Ed (Nick Frost) and the uptight Pete (Peter Serafinowicz). Life is passing Shaun by, until one day Ed notices a strange woman wandering in their garden…
This has one of the funniest bits right after the title that I think I’ve seen, and keeps its momentum for the rest of the film. My favorite bit? Watch Shaun and Ed’s drunken walk home from the pub one night. I love how the British mix dry wit and goofy humor together, and this is as good an example of it as anything I can think of. If you like Monty Python you should like this. Oh, and the end is perfect too.
Three chocolate morsels and a pint, if you try it someplace new.
